Liposuction NYC

If certain parts of your body remain unaffected by weight loss or exercise, liposuction could be the perfect option for you. This surgical method, carried out by our board-certified plastic surgeons, involves the use of a suction tool to extract fat cells from specific regions. The goal is to sculpt these areas into a more streamlined and natural-looking shape.

What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes unwanted fat deposits from nearly anywhere on the body. Used alone or alongside other popular cosmetic procedures such as tummy tuck surgery, traditional liposuction and other liposuction techniques can significantly reduce fat cells, leaving you slimmer with improved body contours.

Liposuction Surgery Benefits

Although liposuction is not a weight loss procedure, removing localized fat deposits from stubborn areas can give you a slimmer, more attractive figure. It’s an excellent way to get rid of those areas of fat that have been consistently resistant to a healthy diet and exercise.

In turn, liposuction can give you a great boost in self-esteem and motivation. Patients find it more enjoyable to buy and wear clothes, and with their new-found motivation, patients report improving other areas of their lives after liposuction as well.

Meet Dr. Schulman – Liposuction Surgeon NYC

“I say all the time that liposuction is easy to do, but hard to do well.”  In theory, it is a simple procedure, where you just suck out the fat. But it is much more. It is a sculpting procedure to remove stubborn areas of fat that is resistant to diet and exercise.  If you have ‘problem’ areas, then this may be the right procedure.

Even after lipo, you still want to look natural, so we need to keep those natural contours.  My team will also help you throughout the recovery process so you can get the best possible results from your procedure.

Liposuction Procedure

The basis of a liposuction procedure is simply the removal of excess fat using a thin hollow tube called a cannula. There are dozens of differently sized cannulas for different areas of the body.

The procedure begins with the administration of anesthesia, following by several small incisions around the treatment area. Dr. Schulman will do his best to place incisions in hard-to-see places, but they are also very small and heal almost invisibly.

Depending on the liposuction technique being used, there may be another step to break down fat cells at this point (laser energy, ultrasound energy, etc.). Then, the fat is gently and strategically removed. Finally, the incisions are closed.

Ideal Candidates for Fat Removal Surgery

Plastic surgeons need to meet with their patients to assess their anatomy and medical history before clearing them for surgery. It’s important that candidates be in good health and non smokers. You should have a healthy lifestyle and stable body mass index and should not have any serious medical conditions that could put you at risk.

It’s also important to ensure that liposuction is the right body contouring procedure for you. If you have excess fat on your stomach, for example, but also struggle with separated abdominal muscles and excess skin, you may in fact need a tummy tuck in addition to liposuction.

Types of Liposuction Procedures

Various types of liposuction can be used to get rid of unwanted fat. Most types vary depending on the way the fat is broken down prior to removal.

Power assisted liposuction:

uses vibrations to break down fat cells.

Ultrasound assisted liposuction:

Breaks down fat with ultrasound energy.

Tumescent liposuction: (also called suction assisted lipo)

Uses a special solution that is injected into the fatty layer before removing the fat. This numbs the area and reduces trauma.

Laser liposuction:

Which uses laser energy to liquefy fat before it is removed. SmartLipo is a type of laser assisted liposuction that also provides benefits that tighten skin.

I think it goes without saying that making the decision to get surgery and selecting the medical professional to accomplish those goals for you can be a very painstaking process. I am very confident in saying that this was never the issue with Dr. Matthew Schulman. Your safety, your results, and the experience of the man behind those tools are what counts the most.

Liposuction Risks

All surgery comes with risks. Liposuction is no exception. Though rare, the most common risks associated with liposuction include:

  • Reaction to anesthesia
  • Fluid accumulation
  • Skin sensation changes
  • Excessive bleeding
  • Blood clots
  • Infection
  • Asymmetries or irregular contours
  • Cellulite or uneven skin
  • Scarring
  • Loose excess skin that doesn’t conform to your new body shape

Liposuction Recovery

It’s normal to experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort during the initial recovery period. Most patients can return to their normal activities after a few days. However, you’ll need to refrain from exercise and heavy lifting for several weeks and wear a compression garment for around three months. The more liposuction you have, the longer your recovery will be.

The procedure itself is not painful because general anesthesia will be used in most cases. For small, isolated areas, local anesthesia with IV sedation can be used, but still, no pain should be felt.

Note that it’s important to eat healthy and maintain your ideal body weight during and after recovery as well. If a patient gains weight in significant amounts, they may alter their results.

Liposuction Cost NYC

The cost of liposuction is difficult to estimate without seeing the patient first. At your liposuction consultation appointment, you’ll get the chance to speak with Dr. Schulman in person and discuss your goals. The costs of liposuction will largely depend on how many areas you’d like to remove fat from, the extent of fat reduction from each area, and the liposuction technologies that are used.

Questions and Answers: NY Liposuction

If you’re like most people, you probably have some questions about liposuction result remaining. Here are some of the most common queries and their answers, so you can make a more informed decision today.

Who does the best liposuction near me?

Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Matthew Schulman performs liposuction procedures for a range of patients at his New York City practice. As a body contouring specialist, patients come from around the nation and the world to undergo liposuction with Dr. Schulman.

Do you offer liposuction for men?

Yes, male liposuction is growing in popularity, and we have many lipo patients who are men. Most male patients seek liposuction results on the lower abdomen, flanks, and chest.

Does Dr. Schulman offer non invasive lipo?

Some surgeons use procedures such as CoolSculpting and Liposonix to “melt away” fat without surgery, however this is not something that Dr. Schulman offers at this time.

How much is liposuction in NYC?

The cost of liposuction in New York City can vary drastically. Therefore, for inquiries regarding cost, we ask that you schedule a consultation appointment with Dr. Schulman. Only after a brief physical exam and a discussion of your desired outcome can Dr. Schulman provide a more accurate cost estimate.

Is liposuction painful?

Most liposuction techniques are performed under general anesthesia, which means you will be asleep throughout the surgery and won’t feel any pain. Even liposuction that is performed on small, isolated areas, which can be performed with local anesthesia should not be painful.

After surgery, however, you should expect some mild pain and discomfort. This can be eased with prescription medications over the first few days of your recovery.

How many sizes do you lose with liposuction?

Liposuction is not a procedure for weight loss. Rather, it is a body shaping or body contouring procedure.

In this way, you may not go down a clothing size at all (or you may). You will, however, notice that liposuction removes those pockets of stubborn fat that were resistant to diet and exercise, while smoothing and reshaping your silhouette.

How painful is recovery from liposuction?

Recovery after liposuction does include some soreness and pain. Still, liposuction is a well tolerated procedure overall. The most pain usually occurs over the first two or three days of the healing process and is most noticeable when transitioning from a resting position to movement.

Who has the most affordable liposuction in NYC?

While cost is certainly a consideration when undergoing liposuction, good liposuction should not be cheap. Always look for the best liposuction surgeon that is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
Ensure they have extensive experience, and book a consultation appointment to be sure it’s a good fit. Poorly done lipo can be very noticeable and extremely difficult (if not impossible) to fix.

Can liposuction get rid of belly fat?

Absolutely. In fact, the majority of liposuction patients seek at least some fat removal from the belly area.
