Your Breasts are Cousins, not Sisters

Breasts are like snowflakes – no two are alike. I have seen a lot of breasts in my lifetime, and I have yet to meet a woman who has a right breast that is identical to her left breast. Some degree of asymmetry is normal and expected. This may be a slight difference in the volume, shape, nipple position, or breast fold height. They may be similar, but never identical. This is why I tell my patients that their breasts are like cousins, no sisters.

How to avoid the “I wish I went bigger” after breast augmentation

According to national data, the most common reason for reoperation after breast augmentation is not implant rupture, infection, or scarring….it is size change! It is all too common for women to undergo breast augmentation yet still feel like they want to be bigger. As a board certified plastic surgeon specializes in cosmetic breast surgery, this makes me crazy because it is preventable.

Rapid-Recovery Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures and not just in New York City. I am constantly striving to improve my technique for this procedure. Over the years I have altered my technique to create a “Rapid-Recovery Breast Augmentation” that requires half the recovery, half the bruising and swelling, and half the pain as other breast augmentation methods.

Bargain Shopping and Breast Implants Don’t Mix!

Try this experiment – enter “cheap breast implants in New York City” into Google. You may be surprised that nationally there are almost 2 million search results. Many of these results are from plastic surgeons offering breast augmentation for prices that are significantly lower than most other doctors are charging. My personal favorites are $2700 at a plastic surgeon in New Jersey, $2995 in Miami, and $2995 in Beverly Hills. Even some surgeons in the highest priced markets such as New York City are advertising prices as low as $5700. As the old adage goes, “If it sounds too good to be true….”

Adjustable Breast Implants?

There is a new weapon in the war against small breasts – a breast implant that has adjustable volume. Adjustable breast implants have a port through which saline can be added or removed. This allows the volume to be adjusted for various reasons. Before you get too excited, these are not intended to allow women to increase their breast size for a night on the town, or decrease the size for that important business meeting. The adjustment process involves a plastic surgeon placing a sterile needle through the skin into the fill port that is under the skin and meticulously adding or removing sterile saline solution. So it is a far cry from the Reebok Pump sneaker technology of the Eighties.

It is Possible to Get “Natural-looking” Breast Implants

Many women desire breast augmentation but decide not to have the surgery because they fear looking “fake.” There are ways to avoid having breasts that announce to the world that they are implants. It is possible to have breast augmentation surgery that gives a natural-looking result. Here are things to keep in mind: (more…)

Will Breast Implants Affect Breastfeeding?

Because the majority of my new york city breast implant patients are young women of childbearing age, the issue of breast implants and breastfeeding is an important one. I am routinely asked if the presence of breast implants affects the ability to breastfeed. While many people think that they do, the answer is “No.” Breastfeeding with breast implants also does not place the baby at any risk.

Why Your Breasts Change – Observations from the Beach

As I lounged on the beach this weekend (with my SPF 50), my eyes wandered to all the breasts around me. It’s ok, because as I tell my wife, it’s all “research” and I assured her it was for my latest blog entry. Breasts can be found in a variety of shapes and sizes. But the point is that the breasts that I observed are likely not the same size and shape that they were five years earlier. Breasts are extremely susceptible to changes – they change with age, weight, pregnancy, and breast feeding. To understand why, we have to examine the physiology of the female breast.
