Double chin fat removal with skin tightening in NYC

Interested in Chin Liposuction in NYC? Dr. Matthew Schulman, MD is one of the best plastic surgeons in New York City and with neck liposuction will remove the layer of fat that is giving you that full, round appearance.

People often hate their neck. Now with selfies and video conference calls everywhere, there is just no hiding your neck. You can’t spend the summer months in scarves and turtlenecks. So what are your options?

Usually it is a combination of excess fat and some mild skin laxity that is responsible for your “double chin” or “turkey neck” appearance.  For the right person, this is a good alternative to a more invasive surgical neck lift.

Liposuction is the removal of fat from your neck area using small tubes, or cannulas. This can be done anywhere on the body where there is unwanted fat. Liposuction is commonly done on the abdomen, flanks, back, thighs, and neck.

What is Chin liposuction?

Chin liposuction surgery is a cosmetic surgical procedure that involves the removal of excess fat under the chin and on the neck. It is also known as submental liposuction, as the procedure specifically targets the submental region, which is the area beneath the chin.

Liposuction can be an effective way to improve the contour of the face and neck, and is often used to treat double chins, jowls, and other signs of aging.

However, it is important to note that it is a surgical procedure and carries some risks and potential side effects, so it is important to discuss the risks and benefits with a qualified plastic surgeon before deciding to undergo chin lipo.

Neck Liposuction Surgery Candidate

The ideal candidate for neck rejuvenation with neck liposuction (double chin removal) is a patient with fullness to the neck that is predominantly fat and not hanging skin. This is because liposuction  surgery, no matter where on the body it is done, addresses fat and not skin. How can you tell if you have fat or skin? Give your neck a pinch.

If it feels thick and firm, then it is most likely fat, and you may be a good liposuction candidate. It only takes a very small amount of fat removal to see a dramatic improvement in your neck.

If it feels thin and “wiggly”, it is most likely a skin issue and you may need to explore a skin removal plastic surgery procedure such as neck liposuction or neck lift.

Before and After

Liposuction Surgery Technique for Double Chin Removal

Liposuction of the neck begins with the infiltration of a specialized numbing solution called tumescent solution. This is a solution of salt water, adrenaline, and numbing medicine that numbs the area, plumps up the fat cells, and constricts blood vessels.

The tumescent solution is placed into the layer of fat in the neck, which is just below the skin, but above any vital structures. This is done with a small needle. After letting this solution sit for a few minutes, a small cannula is inserted and the fat is removed.

Dr. Schulman opens a tiny puncture below the chin and sometimes behind the earlobes.  After removing the fat, the patient is placed in a compression garment for the face and neck. This procedure takes under an hour and can be performed using just the numbing solution or with the addition of intravenous sedation in our certified operating room.

Meet Dr. Schulman – Facial Liposuction Surgeon

“Excess fat on your neck is unlike excess fat on other parts of your body since you can’t hide it beneath clothes. It’s right there for everyone to see. Often, people with unwanted neck fat are not overweight. Some people just simply store fat in this area, even if they are at their ideal weight. The benefits of neck liposuction is that it removes that excess fat, and also gives a more defined jawline. This procedure is desirable to young and old, men and women.

There is a good chance that you can have neck liposuction under local anesthesia. This means that you can remain awake, but you won’t feel anything, so your recovery will be quick.”

Recovery from Liposuction of the Jaw

Just like any liposuction procedure, there will be some chin lipo bruising and swelling. This severity and duration will depend on different factors, such as the amount of lipo you had done and your own tendency to bruise and swell. There is very little pain after this procedure, and most patients require nothing stronger than Tylenol.

In terms of activities after a neck liposuction procedure, there will be very little restrictions.

Dr. Schulman recommends that you take it easy for a few days to a week.  This does not mean that you need to lay in bed. In fact, you can begin normal daily activities right away.

However, you should avoid exercising since elevations of your blood pressure will make you more bruised and more swollen. You will need to wear that compressive neck garment at all times for a week. This will help your chin liposuction recovery. You will see your Liposuction results relatively quickly.

As the swelling decreases over the first few weeks after  surgery, you will begin to see improved shape and contour of your jaw and neckline. You should see your final results in about 6 months.

Chin Liposuction Cost NYC

The cost of chin liposuction surgery, also known as submental liposuction, can vary depending on several factors, including the location of the surgeon, the surgeon’s experience and expertise, the extent of the procedure, and the type of anesthesia used.

On average, chin liposuction cost in New York City ranges from $5,000 to $10,000. This cost typically includes the surgeon’s fees, facility fees, anesthesia fees, and any necessary follow-up appointments. However, it is important to note that the cost can be higher or lower depending on the specific circumstances of the individual’s case.

Questions and answers about Neck Liposuction

Will there be chin liposuction scars?

Liposuction  surgery is performed through very tiny puncture holes. This is usually beneath the chin, in a normal crease, and sometimes behind each earlobe. So yes, there will be scars, but they are so tiny, it is unlikely you will even see them yourself after you are healed after surgery. Reconstructive scar surgery can be done after is needed.

Will the fat come back after double chin liposuction?

In general, if you gain weight after liposuction, the fat transfer tends to NOT return to the area you had liposuction. This means that your chin and neck side results should last, even with a little weight gain. Of course, the aging process still continues, so even if the fat does not come back, you may experience some skin laxity as you age.

Does this also help my jowls?

Technically, double chin neck liposuction will not directly improve your jowls, but it will clean up the jawline and give the appearance of jowl improvement. If you have severe jowling, then a facelift may be the more appropriate face liposuction procedure for you.

How painful is double chin surgery?

The majority of individuals undergo double chin surgery on an outpatient basis, allowing them to go back home on the same day. It’s important to anticipate some post-procedure swelling and discomfort, possibly accompanied by mild pain. You might experience a sensation of tightness in your jaw and neck area. Your medical practitioner might recommend prescribed medication to manage pain or provide suggestions for over-the-counter solutions. How do you get rid of bruising after chin liposuction?

How do you get rid of bruising after chin liposuction?

ICE: During the initial 48 hours of chin liposuction, utilize damp, frozen gauze and ice packs on the surgical regions to minimize swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Apply these items to the designated area for 20 minutes each hour.

HEAT: Following 8 hours, initiate the use of moist heat by placing a damp towel along with the heat source.

How long do chin lipo results last?

The duration of the results of a double chin liposuction procedure, also known as submental liposuction, can vary depending on various factors such as individual anatomy, age, and lifestyle habits.

Typically, the plastic surgery results of chin liposuction are considered long-lasting, as the procedure removes excess fat cells from the targeted area permanently. However, it is important to note that the remaining fat cells in the chin area can still expand if an individual gains weight, leading to the appearance of a double chin once again.

What are the cons of chin lipo?

As with any surgical procedure, chin liposuction, also known as submental facial liposuction, has potential risks and disadvantages. Some of the cons of chin liposuction plastic surgery include:

  1. Risks and complications: Like any surgery, chin liposuction carries risks such as infection, bleeding, scarring, and nerve damage.
  2. Uneven results: There is a possibility of uneven results or irregularities in the contour of the chin, which can require revision surgery. Cosmetic results vary.
  3. Skin laxity: If the skin in the chin area is already loose or has lost elasticity due to age, weight loss, or genetics, it may not tighten up after liposuction, leading to sagging or loose skin.
  4. Recovery time: Chin liposuction typically requires several days of downtime and recovery, during which time the individual may need to wear a compression garment and limit physical activity.
  5. Cost: Chin liposuction can be expensive, and insurance typically does not cover cosmetic procedures.
  6. Discomfort: Discomfort, bruising, and swelling are common after chin liposuction, and some people may experience pain or discomfort for several days or weeks after the procedure.

Is liposuction in the chin worth it?

Facial liposuction involves extracting fat from beneath the skin to shape the contours of the chin and neck. “We create a tiny incisions beneath the skin, insert a tube, and extract the fat,” explains Dr Schulman. Liposuction surgery generally necessitates only local anesthesia to numb the specific region.
