What is CORE Laser Treatment?

CORE is a fractionated laser, meaning that the laser is directed to only a portion of the treatment area. This allows for a treatment with less downtime and a faster recovery.  Patients experience minimal discomfort during the treatments and during healing.

Core Co2 Laser Fractional Resurfacing – Dr. Matthew Schulman

Matthew Schulman, M.D.

Meet Dr. Schulman – CORE Laser New York City

“Being able to resurface the skin is a great thing in plastic surgery. It allows me to smooth lines and wrinkles, and to help scars fade. CORE laser is a valuable tool that allows me to rejuvenate an aging face or hide surgical scars. My surgical patients routinely start CORE laser on their surgical scars 3-4 weeks after surgery and the improvements have been amazing.”

Who is a good candidate for CORE laser treatment?

If you are looking to improve the appearance your face, but reducing lines, wrinkles, and dark spots, this is the treatment for you. CORE laser treatment to the face offers a good non-surgical option for the aging face. It is also a great option for younger patients with acne scarring and skin irregularities.  CORE is also used to treat scars, ether scars from injury or scar from surgery.  It is common for our surgical patients to begin a course of CORE laser treatments shortly after surgery. This helps to promote good quality scar healing and improved cosmetic appearance.

CORE is completely tunable. It can treat the outer layers of the skin, the deep layers of the skin, and everything in between.  We also have the ability to control the intensity of treatment and the shape and size of the treatment area.

If you want to improve the appearance of your skin or reduce the appearance of scars, then CORE CO2 laser treatment may be exactly what you need.

My biggest fear for my tummy tuck was the scar. I wanted to do everything I could to make it fade so I did laser treatments shortly after surgery. It wasn’t painful and now my scar looks even better than I was hoping for.

Questions and answers about Core Co2 Laser Fractional Resurfacing

Ideal candidates for Core are in their 30s or older with skin damaged by exposure to the sun, age spots, fine lines, discoloration, rough texture or other skin imperfections. It is ideal for anyone seeking younger looking skin without the long downtime associated with conventional resurfacing procedures.

You can expect some moderate discomfort during the treatment, but the anesthetic applied prior to the procedure typically makes any discomfort tolerable. For more aggressive, higher powered treatments, your practitioner may recommend a subcutaneous anesthetic, oral pain relievers and/or sedatives during the treatment session. Over the counter pain relievers may be taken in the days after the procedure to alleviate any residual discomfort.

Yes, you should speak with your practitioner about your complete medical and skin history to minimize the potential for any negative reactions.

Generally, you will see the difference you want after only one treatment. In the days after the treatment your skin will gradually look softer and smoother. The age spots and uneven textures will start to show immediate improvement. Some conditions require multiple treatments sessions.

The durability of Core results approaches that of surgical procedures. However, there are a number of variables that will determine how long you can expect the results to last.

Immediately following the procedure, you can expect a sensation similar to a sunburn, lasting several hours. You can expect peeling of dead skin from the treatment area. This is a natural exfoliation process that may last 7-10 days.

We recommend starting laser treatments on your surgical scar, 3 weeks after surgery. This will help promote good scar formation and improve your chances of getting well healed scar. The laser treatment may also work for old scars as well. Scar treatments usually require about 4 laser sessions,
