Microdermabrasion in New York City

Skin rejuvenation through microdermabrasion is a simple means to combat the signs of an aging face in even the earliest stages. Professional microdermabrasion involves a combination of mechanical exfoliation and powerful suction. The exfoliation removes the outer layers of the skin, and the suction stimulates the production of healthy new skin cells.

For many years, people have come to Dr. Schulman’s practice for regular microdermabrasion treatments performed in a comfortable, spa-like setting by a licensed medical aesthetician.

Microdermabrasion is a completely non-invasive approach to facial rejuvenation, and can:

  • Improve skin texture
  • Reduce the appearance of fine lines
  • Reduce the appearance of acne lesions and acne scars
  • Brighten dull skin
  • Reduce pigment irregularities
  • Stimulate collagen production and skin tightness

Dr. Schulman uses the latest in crystal-free microdermabrasion. This means that there are no more tiny crystals used.  Instead, real diamonds are embedded on a treatment tip and provide the exfoliation, offering a more comfortable and effective treatment. The treatment requires about 20 minutes and is often combined with other treatments such as light chemical peels or specialty facials.  The treatment is extremely comfortable and does not require any downtime.  You will see an immediate improvement in the texture and appearance of your skin.

Microdermabrasion is a common component of the anti-aging regimen for women and men.  It is also among the most common treatments for Dr. Schulman’s younger patients.

Questions and Answers

Am I a candidate for microdermabrasion?

Your skin will be analyzed by our licensed medical aesthetician to determine if you are a candidate for microdermabrasion. Generally someone with rough textured skin with concerns of dull, lackluster skin is the best candidate. Someone with sensitive or skin prone to redness may not be a candidate.

Is there downtime associated with microdermabrasion?

There is no downtime after this treatment. You may have slight redness for a few hours, but your skin will be smooth and bright very quickly. We call this a “lunch time treatment”, often people will return back to work as soon as the treatment is over.

Is this treatment safe for pregnant or lactating women?

Yes this treatment can be performed safely on pregnant or lactating women.

What do I need to do before and after my microdermabrasion treatment?

You must discontinue any exfoliating products including alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) serums, scrubs, retinol night creams and topical prescriptions (Triluma, Retin-A, Tretinoin etc…) for at least 5 days prior to and 5 days after your treatment. It is very important to apply sunscreen daily after this treatment, as your skin will be more sensitive to the sun’s damaging rays.

How often do I need to get this treatment done?

While a single treatment provides immediate improvement in the appearance of your skin, Dr. Schulman recommends a weekly microdermabrasion for 6 weeks to enjoy the long term improvement in your skin.

Can Microdermabrasion be combined with chemical peels or IPL?

Yes, and it is often recommended.
