Questions and Answers

Am I a candidate for chemical peels?

Dr. Schulman’s licensed medical aesthetician will analyze your skin prior to treatment and determine if you are a candidate. Chemical peels are safe and effective for almost every skin type.

How often do I need to get this treatment done?

This depends on exactly what we are treating. The protocol is different for every skin concern. Generally while treating acne, we recommend coming every 2 weeks, whereas discoloration or anti-aging treatments are spaced 4 weeks apart.

Is this treatment safe for pregnant or lactating women?

Not all chemical peels can be performed on pregnant or lactating women. However, there are some chemical peels that are completely safe and effective for use on pregnant or lactating women. Please notify your aesthetician if you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant.

What do I need to do before and after my treatment?

You must discontinue any exfoliating products including alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) serums, scrubs, retinol night creams and topical prescriptions (Triluma, Retin-A, Tretinoin etc…) for at least 5 days prior to and 5 days after your treatment. It is very important to apply sunscreen daily after this treatment, as your skin will be more sensitive to the sun’s damaging rays.

Will my skin peel from these chemical peels?

You may or may not have actual skin flaking with your chemical peel. Lack of peeling is NOT an indication that the peel was unsuccessful. If you do not notice actual peeling, please know that you are still receiving all the benefits of the chemical peel such as: stimulation of collagen production, improvement of skin tone and texture, softening of fine lines and decreased pigmentation. In addition to flaking, you may have some redness or sensitivity for 5-7 days

Can Chemical peels be combined with microdermabrasion or dermaplaning?

Yes, and it is often recommended.
