Will I Have to Wear a Chin Liposuction Compression Garment?

Will I Have to Wear a Chin Liposuction Compression Garment

The short answer is yes. After chin liposuction (also called neck liposuction), you will have to wear a chin liposuction compression garment. Sometimes this is called a double chin strap chin liposuction compression garment or a double chin strap.

Below, we’ll go into more detail regarding this recovery garment and the chin liposuction procedure in general.

What Is Chin Liposuction?

Chin liposuction, also referred to as neck liposuction, is a common cosmetic procedure that removes excess fat from beneath the chin and along the neck and jawline. The goal of the surgery is to help patients look thinner, younger, and better overall.

Chin lipo can be a totally transformational surgery despite it being quite short and simple to perform. It can take a heavy thick neckline with a lot of excess fat and reduce that fat to give you a beautifully defined jawline and slim neck.

Chin Liposuction Procedure Details

We will begin by filling the target treatment area with numbing medicine. This will numb the area and plump it up for easier fat removal.

Chin liposuction procedures can be performed without general anesthesia in most cases. You will be completely numbed up with local anesthesia, and sedation can help keep you calm throughout the procedure.

An incision will be made right beneath the point of the chin. This is a very small incision and the only one that is needed in almost all neck liposuction surgeries. Many people already have a scar here from falling down or having a small accident as a child.

A thin metal tube with holes in the side called a cannula will then be inserted into the incision, and Dr. Schulman will use this to suction out the unwanted fat. The procedure itself usually takes around 20 minutes.

Finally, the incision will be closed up, and you’ll be ready to start the recovery process.

Chin Liposuction Recovery

Chin liposuction recovery is relatively fast and easy. Patients typically experience little to no pain, though pain medication can be prescribed if needed. The main thing to keep in mind is that you may not want to go out in public, return to work or school, or see certain people during the first week of recovery.

This is, of course, your choice. But you will have some bruising and swelling, and you’ll need to wear your compression garment, so sometimes, this deters people from going out of the house for a while.

Fortunately, throughout your recovery, you’ll be able to do almost all of your normal activities. You’ll want to wait to exercise until you are cleared to do so by your surgeon, and you’ll of course need to take it easy in general. But it’s definitely not the same as a more challenging recovery, which might be experienced with a tummy tuck or breast lift surgery, for example.

Chin Liposuction Compression Garment Use

During chin and neck liposuction recovery chin liposuction compression garment use is mandatory.

So, what is a compression garment?

Compression garments are commonly worn after surgeries such as stomach liposuction, breast augmentation, and BBL surgery. Wearing compression garments helps to minimize bruising and reduce swelling.

Of course, you’ll need the right compression garment for your particular surgery and healing process. The chin compression garment can look rather odd because it wraps all the way around the head in order to provide compression. Fortunately, it is made of breathable fabric and is actually quite comfortable.

In addition to reducing swelling and bruising, compression garments encourage the skin and tissues to stay in the proper place post chin surgery as well. Do keep in mind, however, that if you have significant loose skin, not chin liposuction nor the compression garment cannot take care of the excess skin. This procedure only targets stubborn fat.

Your chin garment needs to be worn continuously throughout the first few days after surgery. Dr. Schulman will tell you how long to wear the garment every day and for how long post surgery.

Chin Liposuction Scars

Most patients have just one small chin liposuction scar that is located directly beneath the point of the chin. The incision only needs to be big enough for a thin tube called a cannula to be inserted. There will just be a few small stitches placed here following surgery, and these will fall out on their own.

You can see examples of this very small scar in chin lipo before and after photos.
