Chin liposuction (also referred to as submental liposuction or under chip lipo) can transform a patient’s facial profile significantly.
Excess fat beneath the chin can be the result of genetics, weight gain and weight fluctuations, or aging. No matter what is causing it, reducing fat in this area notably improves your appearance, giving you the confidence you deserve.
No more turtlenecks and scarves in July. Just you and your beautiful neck and jawline.
Below, we’ve compiled a list of some of our top tips for undergoing a successful submental lipo surgery and chin liposuction recovery period.
Tips for a Successful Chin Liposuction
Be prepared at home before your surgery.
For most patients, chin liposuction recovery is not a long or intense period. However, once you arrive home after surgery, you will want to sit and rest. You won’t want to go grocery shopping, make dinner, or clean up. Therefore, it’s best to be prepared beforehand.
Follow your aftercare instructions carefully.
After any type of facial liposuction, including chin and neck lipo, all patients will go home with succinct instructions for aftercare. Be sure you follow these closely. Not doing so could make your scars worse or may alter your results in an unfavorable way.
Sleep according to your surgeon’s directions.
You won’t be able to sleep exactly the way you’re used to right after your surgery. Be sure to ask your surgeon the best way to lay in bed. Most of the time, this will be on your back at a slight incline.
Do not smoke, and limit your alcohol intake.
Smoking is never a good idea, but it can be especially detrimental right after plastic surgery. Any type of plastic surgery — from tummy tucks to laser liposuction — can end up in complications if a patient starts to smoke during recovery.
Likewise, alcohol can be bad for plastic surgery recovery. While you will be able to drink again in the future, right after plastic surgery is not a good time.
Get up and move around as soon as possible.
While blood clots are rare, they can happen. Usually, they are the result of not moving enough after a serious surgery. After your chin liposuction, you should be able to move around and take short, easy walks immediately. Do this several times a day or as your surgeon directs you to.
Wear your compression garment as directed.
All patients will need to wear a chin liposuction compression garment after surgery. Be sure you are wearing this as directed because it can aid with scar formation and optimal results.
Stay out of the sun.
You will have at least one small chin liposuction scar after surgery. This will be located directly beneath the chin.
Most of the time, it fades almost to obscurity. But do keep in mind that scars darken in the sun. Staying covered and using sunscreen is advised.
Attend follow-up appointments with your surgeon.
You will have pre-planned periodic post-surgery appointments with your surgeon. Attend all of these as they are important for your health and ensuring great results after surgery.
Maintain your results by leading a healthy lifestyle.
Eating healthy, drinking a lot of water, exercising, and staying away from drugs and excess alcohol will help you maintain your chin lipo results.
FAQ: Lipo Under Chin
Is neck liposuction the same as a neck lift?
No. Neck liposuction is double chin surgery: removal of excess fat cells from beneath the chin and along the neckline.
A neck lift cannot help with unwanted fat. Rather, it is a plastic surgery procedure meant to remove signs of aging (excess skin, sagging skin, wrinkles, etc.) from the chin and neck area.
Does double chin removal help with skin tightening?
No, if you have loose skin along your neck contour, you should likely not undergo double chin lipo. Submental liposuction surgery is only for patients with excess fat on their chin and neck area.
If you have loose neck skin that needs to be tightened, a liposuction technique could actually make things worse. In this case, another cosmetic surgery like a neck lift would be the preferred option.
What does under chin lipo cost?
If you have lipo under chin cost ranges will inevitably vary. Different surgeons charge different amounts, the cost of living in your preferred geographic area will be taken into account, and every surgical procedure is unique.
Ultimately, chin liposuction cost will need to be assessed by your chosen surgeon at or quickly after your initial consultation appointment.
