If you can pinch and feel excess fat on your chest, and diet and exercise haven’t been able to reduce this fat, you may qualify for male chest liposuction, also called male breast reduction surgery.

Male Liposuction Cost & Procedure FAQs
What is male chest liposuction?
Male chest liposuction is another term for gynecomastia liposuction. Gynecomastia is a male medical condition where the male chest is larger due to excess fat or skin and/or excess breast tissue (excess glandular tissue).
Naturally, many men feel uncomfortable having enlarged breasts, and they want a flatter, more masculine profile. Gynecomastia surgery will achieve this. Often, the gynecomastia surgery itself only consists of liposuction because the excess bulk in the chest is fat only.
For enlarged male breasts due to fat only, we will numb the area, make several small incisions, insert a thin metal tube called a cannula, and suction out the fat. Finally, we will close the incisions, and you will be ready to move onto the recovery.
Who is a good candidate for male chest liposuction?
The best candidates for male chest liposuction are looking to treat gynecomastia because they have excess fat on their chests. Sometimes, patients also present with excess male breast tissue and excess skin as well.
The fat is usually localized beneath and around the nipples and areolae. Patients should be non-smokers and in good general health. Those with medical conditions such as serious hormonal imbalances, breast cancer, or other cancers or conditions should speak with their primary care physicians before talking to a plastic surgeon.
You must book a consultation appointment before being scheduled for this surgical procedure.
How does male chest liposuction differ from female liposuction?
Women undergo liposuction all the time, but unless it’s for a breast reduction surgery, it is rarely a procedure that is used on the female chest.
Other than this, male and female liposuction tends to be very similar. The process is the same, the technologies available are the same, and recoveries tend to be very similar as well.
How long is the recovery for male chest liposuction?
After male chest reduction surgery, full recovery takes around four weeks or sometimes longer. At the same time, you should be feeling much better after one to two weeks.
After gynecomastia procedures of any kind, you will be sore, and you will have some bruising and swelling due to the trauma of the surgery. You’ll need to wear a compression garment for several weeks and avoid heavy lifting and exercise for at least one month.
Will there be noticeable scarring after male chest liposuction?
We do our very best to create incisions in discreet locations so that there will not be noticeable male liposuction scars after surgery. However, incisions are an integral part of any male breast reduction procedure, as we need to be able to insert the cannula and remove the excess fat.
Fortunately, liposuction incisions only need to be as wide as the diameter of the cannula, which is usually just a few millimeters wide. This results in minimal scarring, and scars tend to heal very well and fade and flatten out with time.
Take a look at our past gynecomastia patients and their male liposuction before and after photos for examples of what scarring typically looks like for male patients after chest area lipo.
How long will my male chest liposuction results last?
Removal of fat during male chest liposuction, like most cosmetic surgeries, should result in permanent results. However, it is important that you maintain a healthy lifestyle and try to maintain a stable weight following your procedure. This will help you maintain your male liposuction results for longer.
Is male chest liposuction effective for gynecomastia?
Yes, liposuction is commonly used as a gynecomastia treatment for common gyno, pubertal gynecomastia, and other forms of this condition.
Can male chest liposuction be combined with other procedures?
Absolutely. Many men decide to get liposuction on their chests as well as on the arms, abdomen, love handles, or elsewhere. Likewise, patients are welcome to combine male chest liposuction with other surgical procedures such as tummy tuck surgery or body lifts.
How much does male chest liposuction cost?
Male liposuction cost varies depending on the extent of the surgery and whether additional breast tissue excision or breast skin removal will be required. Other cost factors we need to consider include what type of anesthesia you require, and whether you decide to have other procedures performed at the same time as male chest liposuction.
Will insurance cover male chest liposuction for gynecomastia?
Typically, no. Even for gynecomastia, male liposuction is rarely covered by health insurance. Providers want to cover medically necessary procedures, but they will not cover plastic surgery procedures that they deem to be primarily cosmetic.
What type of anesthesia is used during male chest liposuction?
This depends on the needs of the patient and the extent of the surgery. Male chest liposuction can be performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation.
