While plastic surgery is often seen as primarily focused on women, male plastic surgery is becoming increasingly popular. In fact, male plastic surgery before and after photos can show dramatic results. Overwhelmingly, male plastic surgery patients say they are happy with their decision to undergo cosmetic treatment.
Of course, one of the hardest parts of undergoing plastic surgery is finding the right plastic surgeon. A lot of patients will simply do a quick Google search in their area for a plastic surgeon who performs the procedure(s) they want.
There’s certainly nothing wrong with this. However, when ultimately reviewing the websites of the plastic surgeons you find, it’s important to know what you should be looking for. And this is especially true when it comes to before and after photos.
What to Look for in Male Before and After Photos
When looking at before and after pictures for a surgeon you’re considering working with, it’s critical to assess the photos carefully. Looks can be deceiving, and you want to be sure you’re choosing a qualified and experienced surgeon who will get you great results.
Keep in mind the following as you try to find the best male plastic surgery before and after pictures.
1. Plastic Surgeon Board Certification
Before you even head to the before and after tab on a plastic surgeon’s website, make sure you find out whether they are board-certified or not. Not every surgeon who performs tummy tuck surgery, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), rhinoplasty, chin lipo, neck lift surgery, gynecomastia surgery, or other plastic surgeries needs to actually be board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. But you definitely want to find a surgeon who is!
The reason for this is that board certification requires plastic surgeons to undergo rigorous training and several years of hands-on surgical work. At the end of this time, each surgeon must also take a very challenging written exam and sit through an extremely difficult oral exam with some of the best plastic surgeons in the nation.
Board certification should be the first thing you look at when looking for a new plastic surgeon.
2. Well-Shot Before and After Photos
Now, you’re ready to head over to the before and after photo section of the surgeon’s website. Here, one of the first things you’ll want to look for is how each photo set was shot:
- Did they achieve consistent lighting?
- Are the male patients positioned in the same position in the before pictures as they are in the after pictures?
- Can you tell if any digital manipulation was done to the photos?
- Is the patient wearing the same or similar clothing in the before and after photos?
- Are there dark shadows or blurred portions of the photos that make it hard to see details clearly?
3. The Procedures You Want
Next, make sure that you see a decent amount of before and after photos for the plastic surgery procedures you are hoping to undergo. Not every plastic surgeon specializes in cosmetic surgery for men.
While you may not know exactly what plastic surgery procedures you want or need before attending your consultation appointment, you can generally get an idea of what a surgeon regularly performs from their before and after galleries.
For example, as a man, you may be looking for gynecomastia surgery, tummy tuck, surgery, body lifts, liposuction, etc. But if the majority of the before and after photos are of female breast augmentation, breast lift surgery, or breast reductions, this probably isn’t the surgeon for you.
4. Excellent Results
Last, but certainly not least, you want to look for great results. In the after photos, do you see results that you would like to have yourself?
If you’re noticing unevenness, lumpiness, noticeable scars, or results that just don’t look very good overall, these are definitely red flags. You want to be looking at the after photos in these photo sets and saying to yourself, “I would love to be able to achieve these results after my surgery!”
