Photofacial (Intense Pulsed Light)

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments can improve the overall appearance of your face. This light energy is used to perform what is commonly known as a “photofacial”. The treatments are done in the comfort of our office with minimal discomfort and only slight redness afterwards.

  • Reduce the appearance of large pores, fine lines & wrinkles
  • Diminish skin redness and broken capillaries
  • Lighten irregular pigmentation and skin discoloration
  • Treat acne lesions

Photofacials are often part of a complete skin care routine including specialty facials, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and daily skin care products.

Frequently Asked Questions about Photofacials:

How many treatments are required for the best results?

Generally Dr. Schulman recommends between 4 and 6 treatments depending on your skin type and concern.

Is there any downtime?

There is little to no downtime associated with the Photofacial. With deeper, more aggressive treatments, you can expect redness and slight swelling that lasts 3-4 days. You also may have light flaking that lasts 3-4 days.

Am I a candidate for a Photofacial?

The photofacial is not ideal for all patients. Those with darker skin types may be better suited for a chemical peel, Dermapen or microdermabrasion treatment instead. Dr. Schulman’s licensed medical aesthetician will analyze your skin to determine if this treatment is best for you.

What do I need to do before and after my Photofacial treatment?

You must discontinue any exfoliating products including alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) serums, scrubs, retinol night creams and topical prescriptions (Triluma, Retin-A, Tretinoin etc…) for at least 5 days prior to and 5 days after your treatment.
